Reading EC controllers?

I think I will start to add the codes to read EC controller and hopefully finish it this year.

RU.EFI for ARM?

There are some requests for ARM version of RU.EFI.  I think I can just make it compiled passed using AARCH64.  ARM is very new to me so it will take some time.

I will try that when I have time.

RU.SET? Black screen? Hang?

When you quit RU it will save your current setting to a file called RU.SET.  So every time you execute RU it will stay as where you were last time, you don't need to select the register that you were reading.

However sometimes RU did not check the RU.SET carefully and this will often cause data corruption.

If RU hangs at the beginning, it's  probably caused by wrong data of RU.SET.  You can delete the RU.SET and try to execute RU again.

RU.EFI did not have this file saved, so it did not remember where you were.  The next version of RU.EFI will add this support as RU.EXE does.

Updated: RU.EFI now saved RU.SET as well started from 5.06.0125

RU 5.04 beta for DOS and UEFI

RU now reads UEFI block IO devices and DOS INT13 devices!   The write function will be added later.

New features:

• Add support to read LBAs.  Hot key = ALT-F1.  UEFI version lists the partitions as well.
• UEFI SMBUS support is added back but SPD information is not displayed yet
• Add ATI/AMD SMBUS - not tested, not fully functional
• Add ALT-M to select config parameters of current bus type.

Bugs Fixed:

• Fixed DOS version may not display all tables in RSDT and XSDT
• Fixed if SMBIOS handle was deleted (not found) RU could hang or get random data.

Minor Bugs fixed:

• Fixed CTRL-ALT-END not working for UEFI mode 
• Fixed Shift-F5 (force register meaning) not working properly with TAB/Shift-TAB

Known bug:

• CTRL-PgUp and CTRL-PgDn keys are not working in RU.EXE

Please note that I never tested RU32.EFI, please let me know if you find any problem.

SMBUS will be rewritten

The SMBUS function of RU is lame.  I will start to rewrite SMBUS part when I had time to do it.  May not be soon but I will take this as a priority.

RU for UEFI - Coming soon!

Finally!

I am writing the UEFI version of RU.  The user interface is 99% the same.  Only difference is that some colors may not be the same to DOS version.  This is due to UEFI background color can't have bright attribute.

After fixing thousands of build errors converting DOS version C files, following functions are working now:

• PCI
• IO
• memory
• SMBIOS
• ACPI tables

Improvements list

Here is the list of minor improvements, will be added whenever the new idea comes out.

1. Search values: RU always search strings.
1) A new command like "sv" will be added to search values.
2) Add a search dialog with hotkeys?
3) hex: "sv 0ffh", dec: "sv 255"?

Adding new feature

I am writing an AMIBIOS Aptio module that can be used by RU to read/write UEFI variable. Then I need to think about the UI of RU on how to operate it easily to access those variables. Probably I will use the same UI as SMBIOS.

Hope I will have enough time to do it.

This is done in RU v4.86

Possible new features

1. Read memory above 4GB
2. F4: switch to all display registers content instead of values.
3. Add a module to Aptio and RU can read/write UEFI variables - Done in RU v4.86

Just the idea, may not be done.

My own wishlist of next RU.EXE

Improvements:

1. Identify SATA devices in AHCI controller.  (done @v4.93)
2. Read AHCI controller's registers. (done @5.06)
3. Read USB controller's registers. (you have to do it manually now)
4. Read HDD sectors (through INT13)

RU.EXE for UEFI shell?
Maybe not in a short time. When I have time I will try to make a very simple one.
